Engagement

 

Engagement

It is a psychological construct that expresses the emotional connection and refers to how actively the individual is involved in a certain activity and with the organization. This construct includes aspects:

-Cognitive (knowledge of the responsibilities, specialty and activity of the company. It is a process that consists of acquiring knowledge through information from the organizational environment; this involves aspects related to thought, language, perception, memory, reasoning, attention, decision making and problem solving through intellectual development and praxis.

-Emotional (it is related to psychophysiological phenomena that are experienced as part of human existence such as: joy, sadness, fear, security, surprise, anger, disgust, anger among others that are typical of the human being and that can arise from the relationship of the surrounding world.

-Psychological (related to the mind, behavior and human experience that integrates the functions of the brain with individual and social actions).

 

Engagement is an interactive and bidirectional process that implies commitment or involvement between subjects (workers, stakeholders, clients, users, community...) and organizations (in the sector, other sectors and the state).

 

Business areas in which the term is used:

In the business context, engagement is identified with the voluntary effort of the workers of an organization to grow, improve and increase quality.

An engaged worker (committed or involved) is a person who is committed and enthusiastic about her work, in such a way that she goes beyond the demands made by her organization.

In the company, the engagement, is that voluntary effort of the workers to contribute the best of them always thinking of obtaining the best results.

An engaged worker (committed or involved) is a person who is fully involved in his work and enthusiastic about it. When he has the opportunity, he acts in a way that goes beyond the tasks assigned to him by the organization.

Academic and school environment: Engagement has been defined as the psychological investment made by the student in order to:

-Learn,

-Understand, and

-Master knowledge and skills.

 

Dimensions and types of "engagement", Reeve (2012), raises four types: cognitive, emotional, behavioral and agentive:

Cognitive. It refers to the extent to which individuals think strategically before, during, and after performing an activity.

Emotional. It refers to both positive and negative affective reactions of individuals regarding a certain activity.

behavioral The behavioral dimension of engagement refers to the effort and persistence of the individual during the initiation and execution of an activity.

Agent. The agentive dimension of engagement. It refers to the intentional, constructive and proactive contributions that the individual makes in the activities in which he participates.
